I’m working on a urban planning writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

1. Examine the Mexican War and its aftermath. What were its ultimate consequences for Native Americans, slaves, and free Blacks in the newly acquired areas. Think back to Thomas Jefferson’s idea of an “Empire of Liberty.” Did the newly acquired land from the Mexican War promote Jefferson’s idea, or as with the Louisiana Purchase, was it an empire of liberty for only a few?

2. Explain the various events that led to the collapse of the Union in 1861. Why and when did certain slave states seceded from the Union? Why did some slave states—Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, and Missouri—decide not to secede? In your opinion, who was responsible for the coming of the Civil War- the South or the North? Was the war inevitable?
