ENG 135 Utica College Literature Essay

Description

Dramatic literature is quite different from prose and poetry. Plays are meant to be seen, to be watched, rather than read. Sometimes, reading a play doesn’t give us a full scope of the emotion it’s meant to evoke.

For Fences, we read and watched a powerful scene in which Troy’s son, Cory, asks his father “How come you ain’t never liked me?” This single line presents us with some of the strongest emotional impact in the play. Reading it, seeing the movie, and seeing it as a stage production are all different. They affect us in different ways – not just reading versus seeing, but the presentation by different actors.

In at least 2-3 pages, excluding your works cited page analyze that scene and compare/contrast the three different ways it was presented and how that impacted the way readers/watchers took in or felt that emotion. Be specific.

Remember, formal papers are not in first person.
