Assignment Instructions

For this assignment, you will conduct further research on the traumatic event approved in M4.5. As we have learned, trauma is not simply an individual event but in fact can affect families, communities and neighborhoods. For this paper, research how the event selected has either affected generations of families or communities as a whole and ways community/government/non-profit agencies have or have not contributed to the healing process.

1. Introductory paragraph: In four or five sentences introduce your event, the significance of this event and the purpose of your paper (thesis statement).
2. Investigation: In 5 – 6 paragraphs and citing a minimum of 6 in-text references to support your work:

• Provide a summary of the event: what it was, where and when it took place, who was affected and in what way were they affected;
• Provide statistical data regarding this event: how many were affected, and the prevalence of such an event both locally and nationally;
• Describe how this event resulted in generational or community trauma;
• Discuss the long-term effects on individuals/communities;
• Identify any risk or protective factors present.

1. Concluding Paragraph: Wrap up your paper by highlighting key elements of your investigation and the points you want your audience to remember. Identify what you learned from this exercise.
2. Reference Page: Include citations for references you quoted or paraphrased within the paper. (Minimum of 6 references)
