    Accounting Total Product Costs Question

    Description

Discussion (1) : Joint costs are used to compute total product costs or the purpose of determine a profit and a sale price. You need to calculate joint costs to calculate inventoriable costs and cost of goods sold. However, as noted in the journal of accounting, not-for-profit entities (NFPs) are under constant pressure to devote an increasing portion of their expenditures to accomplishing their mission programs (disaster relief). However, money must be spent on administration (rent or leasing fees, utilities, etc) , management functions (salaries, travel, blood donations, etc) and fundraising efforts. Pretend that you were donating funds to the Red Cross , propose ways that Red Cross should allocate funds donated from the general public. Discussion (2) : XYZ Bakery’s general manager was puzzled by the results of the income statement for the month which showed a net loss for the bakery. The owner is puzzled because of the volume of customers who flood the bakery each day for baked goods. The owner calculated the cost of direct materials and direct labor and was sure the prices were set right and overhead was estimated based on prior year expenses. How is it possible that volumes could be high but the store could lose money? What are other factors the owner should consider to make sure next year’s financial statements report net income?

LAW 401 Saudi Electronic University Business Law Discussion

    Description

    Hi,

Please answer the (Case study) & (Discussion) below:

    – I need both the case study & discussion in word file format with references.

    – I’m attaching the course material for your reference.

    thanks.

    Case study:

You are the Chairman of the Board of a well-known, publicly traded corporation. You are personally responsible for convincing the Board to fund a new product design that ultimately failed when it was placed on the market, causing extreme losses for the corporation. The shareholders now want to hold you personally responsible for all the losses to the corporation and have filed a derivative lawsuit in the name of the corporation in which you are the defendant. Please describe how you would defend yourself using the Business Judgment Rule. Create and describe any facts you think will support your position under this Rule. Limit your facts to only those that will support your position under this Rule and no others.

    Discussion:

In 2001, British-Dutch corporation Unilever attempted to purchase the assets of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. The Board of Directors of Ben & Jerry’s refused the offer. Unilever’s offer was very generous and would have resulted in a major windfall for the shareholders of Ben & Jerry’s.

The Shareholders threatened to sue the Board of Directors for a breach of fiduciary duty arguing the Board of Directors had a duty for care to make good decisions on behalf of the Corporation. And denying the purchase offer violated that duty.

In fear of the lawsuit, the Board agreed to the sell terms. Do you believe the Board of Directors had a duty to accept the buyout offer? And did their failure to accept it amount to a breach of the fiduciary duties owned to the shareholders?

BUS 475 University of California Break Down of Mattel Quality Product Control Essay

    Description

    1)  What and where (in the process) was a break-down in Mattel’s quality product control(s)?

    2)  What actions were taken by Mattel to rectify the problem and, in your opinion, was that enough?

    3) Using Exhibit 7 from Page 13 of the case, create a plot that shows number of recalls and the year(s) data.  Classify the recalls into Infant, Young Children and Older Children categories (your interpretation).  Show frequency of recalls under each category by year.  Hint:  Create a multi-column file.  Enter every recall, year, and assigned category.  Use PivotTables to do the analysis (counting and charting).  The more granular you get with base data, the more flexibility you’ll have in insights gathering and charting.

    Additional Information:

    Mattel’s Response

In the August 14 product recall announcement, Mattel stated that it was improving its process to prevent the use of lead paint.  The company’s senior vice president of worldwide quality assurance said:

We have immediately implemented a three-point check system: First, we’re requiring that only paint from certified suppliers be used and requiring every single batch of paint at every single vendor to be tested.  If it doesn’t pass, it doesn’t get used.  Second, we are tightening controls throughout the production process at vendor facilities and increasing unannounced random inspections.  Third, we’re testing every production run of finished toys to ensure compliance before they reach our customers.  We’ve met with vendors to ensure they understand our tightened procedures and our absolute requirement of strict adherence to them.

The company also reviewed compliance with its rules regarding excessive levels of subcontracting, and notification of the use of subcontractors.  In addition, it planned to purchase many portable lead detectors for use in its own factories and those of its suppliers.

NCC Evaluating Implicit Bias When Making Decisions Paper

    Description

Assignment: Evaluate Implicit Bias When Making Decisions

    Previous Next

    Instructions

In this assignment, you will take at least one of the Implicit Association Tests (IATs) which are intended to measure your attitudes and beliefs. Through the completion of an IAT, you may discover an implicit attitude that you were previously unaware of that could affect your decision-making. It is important to note that the IAT may cause discomfort, as it brings to light areas that you had not previously considered. Therefore, it is important to approach the IAT from the lens of being an educational tool to create greater self-awareness.

Go to Project Implicit to take this free survey: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/education.html

Once at the link, be sure to read the Overview which is under the heading Education. You are encouraged to review the various topics including the FAQs. You can click on the heading Take a Test. Feel free to choose any one of the IATs listed. After taking one of the IATs, answer the following questions using the NCUOne Video Note tool:

In your own words, describe what an implicit bias is.

Do you think that the IAT you took accurately assessed your implicit attitudes on the topic? If so, where might your own hidden biases have come from? For example, what role did family conversations, things you learned in school, cultural experiences, the news, or even television play? (Please note that you are not being asked your opinion of the test, whether you like it, or it if is valid.)

In what ways might you work on your own hidden biases now that you’ve taken the IAT?

As a researcher, how will you use this information when reviewing information shared/authored by others?
