HINF 510 University of Phoenix The Systems Life Cycle Discussion Responses

Description

 two student responses

Rea B.

The organization I currently work for is running a multi-operational EHR that spans from one facility to the other four facilities. If I could design my own EHR, I would remove some of the features that don’t work with my work. There is a lot of information in the EPIC, and I know it is necessary due to the patient care team. Even though I only write my notes and do a little charting on the patients, I sometimes get distracted from all the other information surrounding my main focus. There is so much going on with the pages that there is clutter. I can’t hide it or put what I need in a folder. If there were a way to hide certain information would be a plus for me.

Thoughts? Is this a possibility for an EHR?

alithia L.

If you could design your own EHR, what would you add or subtract from what you currently know/have experienced regarding EHR functionality? Why?

Electronic health records have many benefits, and it has impacted the healthcare industry in a major way. EHR has made it quicker and easier to access valuable patient data, which helps providers deliver better quality care. However, just like with any other technology, there is always room for improvement. If I could design my own EHR, I would mainly concentrate on improving interoperability, cybersecurity issues, and simplifying the system. Having an interoperable health information system is vital to caring for patients efficiently. Integrating and collaborating between multiple health organizations effortlessly helps with decision-making efforts and allows providers to provide the best possible care in each situation based on real-time patient data. Future EHRs cannot be seen as applications alone but as broad care coordination platforms that must allow dynamic business models to accommodate a great deal of uncertainty and flexibility, especially concerning legal boundaries (Shah, 2012). Cybersecurity has long been an issue that continuously requires attention. I would look into data breaches and software glitches to avoid hackers and other security flaws. Last but least, I would try to make my system user-friendly. Simplicity is key when it comes to learning a new system. Physicians are very busy, and they don’t have any time to waste trying to figure out challenging software.

Anne Arundel Community College Patient with Lower Back Pain Case Study Analysis

Description

The body is constantly sending signals about its health. One of the most easily recognized signals is pain. Musculoskeletal conditions comprise one of the leading causes of severe long-term pain in patients. The musculoskeletal system is an elaborate system of interconnected levers that provides the body with support and mobility. Because of the interconnectedness of the musculoskeletal system, identifying the causes of pain can be challenging. Accurately interpreting the cause of musculoskeletal pain requires an assessment process informed by patient history and physical exams.

In this Discussion, you will consider case studies that describe abnormal findings in patients seen in a clinical setting.

To prepare:

  • By Day 1 of this week, you will be assigned to one of the following specific case studies for this Discussion. Please see the “Course Announcements” section of the classroom for your assignment from your Instructor.
  • Your Discussion post should be in the Episodic/Focused SOAP Note format rather than the traditional narrative style Discussion posting format. Refer to Chapter 2 of the Sullivan text and the Episodic/Focused SOAP Template in the Week 5 Learning Resources for guidance. Remember that all Episodic/Focused SOAP notes have specific data included in every patient case
  • Review the following case studies:Welcome to Week 8! This week you will be working on a case study. By Day 3 post an episodic/focused note about the patient in the case study to which you were assigned using the episodic/focused note template provided in the Week 5 resources. Provide evidence from the literature to support diagnostic tests that would be appropriate for each case. List five different possible conditions for the patient’s differential diagnosis and justify why you selected each.
  • Case Study’sCase #1 Back painA 42-year-old male reports pain in his lower back for the past month. The pain sometimes radiates to his left leg. In determining the cause of the back pain, based on your knowledge of anatomy, what nerve roots might be involved? How would you test for each of them? What other symptoms need to be explored? What are your differential diagnoses for acute low back pain? Consider the possible origins using the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) guidelines as a framework. What physical examination will you perform? What special maneuvers will you perform?

WU Value Based Healthcare Discussion

Description

Discussion: Keeping Costs Under Control

Keep costs under control, reduce spending, and provide quality care: These could be the tenets for any healthcare provider. Oftentimes, when you discuss finances in a healthcare setting, you might focus on spending and keeping costs within your budget while putting quality in the backseat to other goals. Value-driven healthcare and quality measures in healthcare should not be conflicting ideas. The largest organizations responsible for paying providers for care are Medicare and Medicaid, and, like many other organizations, they want to spend less while still providing excellent care. This can be challenging as more and more emphasis is placed on spending.

While these two ideas are not in direct opposition, how decisions about spending are made based on these two perspectives can be very different. Value-driven healthcare strives to create a direct relationship of quality to reimbursement, while quality measurement in healthcare works to improve health through efficiency and utilization of resources. As a provider of healthcare, these two ideas drive financial decisions such as cost control and risk in relation to quality of care and quality measures.

In this week’s Discussion, choose one of the two perspectives to discuss. After posting on your perspective, you will respond to at least two colleagues, one of whom chose a different perspective.

To Prepare:

  • Select one of two perspectives to address in this Discussion:
    • Value-driven healthcare
    • Measuring care for traditional fee-for-service
  • Locate an organization that is implementing an initiative to address the perspective that you chose.
  • Review the Resources for this week and consider the relationship between costs, patient outcomes, and care transitions as it relates to the perspective you chose.
  • Reflect on how the perspective may impact cost reduction and the challenge for maintaining healthcare quality.

By Day 4

Post a comprehensive response to the following:

  • Identify the perspective that you chose (either value-driven healthcare or measuring care for traditional fee-for-service in healthcare)
  • Identify the organization that you found that is implementing an initiative relating to the selected perspective
  • Summarize the initiative, including all policies and procedures that stem from it
  • Explain how this initiative will impact cost control and quality of care within the organization
  • Explain how risk and uncertainty should be factored into cost-control decisions in healthcare

include references.
