FNU TCM Discussion

Description

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an alternative medical practice that is drawn from China. It includes diet, acupuncture, meditation, massage, physical therapy, and physical exercise (Xu, 2019). Xu et al. (2019) state that this system of medicine is partly based on the idea that an energy, which is called “qi,” moves along the body pathways called meridians. In this belief, if the flow of “qi” along these meridians is altered, there is a high chance of developing a disease due to unbalanced “qi” in the body systems (Xu et al., 2019). The Chinese have practiced this method of medicine for many centuries (Fontaine, 2019, p. 49).

TCM practice is patient-centered and focuses on promoting the general well-being of the patient (Fontaine, 2019, p. 50). Apart from “qi,” TCM is based on other four concepts that include “yang,” “yin,” the five seasons, the five phases, and the three treasures (Fontaine, 2019, p. 51). These concepts work together to ensure the efficiency of TCM. The “qi” concept is the most useful as it involves the flow of energy through the body, hence determining the balance of the “meridians,” which maintains the body’s normal functions (Fontaine, 2019, p. 51). Corrective measures for obstructed “qi” include acupuncture, exercise, and meditation.

Additionally, the “tang” and “yin” concepts focus on the wholeness of a person and contain the essential aspects that are found in everything. Yang represents active events such as agitation, stress, high blood pressure, and fever, while passive events include paleness, coldness, low blood pressure, and chronic illnesses (Fontaine, 2019, p. 51). The five seasons is a theory that links the Chinese five seasons, five phases, and five directions to all illnesses’ etiology (Fontaine, 2019, p. 52-53). The five components should exist and be in balance to ensure optimal health. Additionally, in the case of the three treasures comprising the spirit, mind, and body, they should be balanced to ensure the wholeness and wellbeing of an individual’s body (Fontaine, 2019, p. 54).

Strayer HSA 545 Legal and Ethical Dilemma Paper

Description

A Legal and Ethical Dilemma

Overview

Deciding to place a loved one into a long-term care facility can be extremely difficult. Even more difficult is the thought of your loved one’s rights being violated while in long-term care. Patient healthcare rights are not as clearly defined as one would expect, and there are long-term care and other healthcare facilities that create their own sets of patient rights. However, there are also certain indisputable rights afforded to patients across the board.

Read the case study titled “A Legal and Ethical Dilemma”, located on pages 463–465 of your text. Next, use the Internet or Strayer Library to research information on a patient’s right to die.

Instructions

Write a 4–6 page paper in which you:

  1. Describe the legal and ethical dilemma discussed in the case study. Analyze the key ways in which a patient’s right to die relates to this specific case.
  2. From your research, specify the potential repercussions for failure to comply with the wishes of a patient who has requested to withhold a life-sustaining procedure. Next, take a position on whether the patient’s right to die or the patient’s right to be protected from harm should take precedence in this case. Provide a rationale for your position.
  3. Imagine that you are a part of the ethics committee investigating this case. Determine the main facts pertaining to the issue that the committee should consider. Suggest one step that the facility should take next in order to resolve the dilemma. Provide a rationale for your response.
  4. Use at least three quality academic resources. Note: Wikipedia and other similar websites do not qualify as academic resources.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.”

ED 5303 KU Public Health Drug & Substance Abuse Research & Bibliography

Description

  • Follow the steps to complete Parts 1 and 2.

Part 1: Research and Annotated Bibliography

Step 1. conduct a search for three peer-reviewed articles related to your issue/problem and behavioral learning theory (classical and/or current).

Step 2. Begin development of an annotated bibliography by recording each article in APA format and writing a paragraph summarizing how the article relates behaviorism to the identified issue/problem. Include the annotated bibliography in your Module 2 submission. You will develop additional parts of the annotated bibliography in subsequent modules and submit a compilation of all entries in Module 5.

Part 2: Planning Document Development

Begin development of a planning document including the following steps:

Step 3. Begin the design of a health and wellness change initiative to address the issue/problem identified in Module 1, and consider the potential impact of behaviorism on the initiative. In a planning document you create:

  • Relate the identified issue/problem and behavioral theory to the development of the health initiative.

Step 4. Identify a specific behavior related to the health and wellness issue or problem which can be at least partially be resolved through education. Analyze the specific behavior you would like to change in terms of antecedents (preceding circumstances)-behavior-consequences. Take a baseline measurement of the target behavior using a tool of your choice. Include the findings in the planning document.

Step 5. Suggest one or more potential strategies you might use to change the behavior. Be sure to address strategies based on the age-appropriateness and the specific developmental stage of your target population.

  • What are the basic assumptions/principles of this theory relevant to your issue or problem/demographic needs?
  • How will these strategies motivate and engage learners?

Step 6. In 1-2 paragraphs, summarize your potential strategies in the planning document. What are the strategies and their purposes? How can they be used to inform the target population?

Step 7. Submission: Submit this portion of your planning document in Module 2. You will continue work on the plan in subsequent modules and submit a compilation in Module 4
