DHS 1110 Idaho State University Intro to Health Professions Discussion

Description

You will interview a person in your selected healthcare field outside of class. This assignment may take several days: first identify a person and set up an interview. Ask him/her about the job opportunities available for this position. Ask what kind of healthcare site does s/he work in (e.g., hospital, clinic), and what support does s/he experience to help stay up-to-date and informed about the profession. For instance, how does s/he earn continuing education credits or maintain licensure? How is his/her work evaluated? That is, how does s/he know what s/he is doing well and how does s/he know what s/he should be improving? What does s/he find most fulfilling and most challenging in the profession?

Develop a list of interview questions. This list may include the following:

1.    Describe the activities in a typical day in your job.

2.    How many hours do you work in a typical week?

3.    Tell me about your background, including education and experience.

4.    What kind of people do you work with? Who do you serve? Who are your colleagues?

5.    Why are you interested in this particular field?

6.    What do you enjoy most about your job?

7.    What skills–such as communication and problem solving–are most important in your field? Describe a situation in which you use these skills.

8.    Describe a challenging situation you’ve had in your job.

9.    Describe your relationship with your patients or clients.

10.    If I were interested in pursuing your career, what classes do you think I should be taking in high school? What extracurricular activities should I pursue?

11.    What other healthcare professionals do you work with?

Walden University Mammogram Machine Discussion

Question Description

I’m working on a health & medical discussion question and need support to help me learn.

Discussion: To Buy or Not to Buy: That is the Question

Your Women’s Health Services Center has determined that there is an opportunity to generate revenue by purchasing a digital mammogram machine. The cost of the machine is $250,000, with annual maintenance fees of $2,500 and is estimated to last 5 years. The radiology center will be open 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, and 50 weeks a year. The current volume of mammograms is 18 per day, and the reimbursement is $215 per mammogram. The radiologist is paid $50 to read each mammogram, and the salary for the full-time mammogram tech is $95,000 annually, including benefits. The cost of disposable supplies is $3.00 for each test. The potential volume for the new digital mammogram machine is 28 per day.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources for this week and review the two case studies in Pink and Song (2018) to provide a framework for the Women’s Health Services Center digital mammogram machine purchase.
  • Reflect on the scenario presented and consider whether you, as a healthcare leader, would recommend that the Women’s Health Services Center purchase the digital mammogram machine.

By Day 4

Post a comprehensive response that addresses the following:

  • Explain how the operating budget, capital budget, and cash flow related to the scenario presented may help you as a healthcare leader in the decision-making process for a large purchase.
  • Explain whether you would recommend to complete the large purchase for the healthcare organization and explain why. Be specific and provide examples.

Strayer Univeristy dementia patient ethical dilemma case Question

Description

Deciding to place a loved one into a long-term care facility can be extremely difficult. Even more difficult is the thought of your loved one’s rights being violated while in long-term care. Patient healthcare rights are not as clearly defined as one would expect, and there are long-term care and other healthcare facilities that create their own sets of patient rights. However, there are also certain indisputable rights afforded to patients across the board.

Read the case study titled “A Legal and Ethical Dilemma”, located on pages 463–465 of your text. Next, use the Internet or Strayer Library to research information on a patient’s right to die.

Instructions

Write a 4–6 page paper in which you:

Describe the legal and ethical dilemma discussed in the case study. Analyze the key ways in which a patient’s right to die relates to this specific case.

From your research, specify the potential repercussions for failure to comply with the wishes of a patient who has requested to withhold a life-sustaining procedure. Next, take a position on whether the patient’s right to die or the patient’s right to be protected from harm should take precedence in this case. Provide a rationale for your position.

Imagine that you are a part of the ethics committee investigating this case. Determine the main facts pertaining to the issue that the committee should consider. Suggest one step that the facility should take next in order to resolve the dilemma. Provide a rationale for your response.

  1. The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

Propose an action toward resolving issues related to a patient’s rights in a given case.

Miami Dade College Quality Improvement Discussion

Description

Scenario – As a staff member who serves on the Quality Improvement Planning Committee, you are at a meeting to discuss the best way to share information about recent CQI data so that staff in the hospital can appreciate the value of the data. You need to identify pros and cons of methods the committee might use to assess and describe data for planning purposes.

The committee is mostly new, some members have limited experience. You and two other members have the most experience, so you three volunteer to help the others get up to speed as quickly as possible so that decisions can be made about steps to take with the data, and you can get to decisions about strategies. You make clear to the other committee members that 1) this is a team effort and 2) the team must engage hospital staff at all levels. “You comment, “We have tried to keep this to ourselves, thinking only we knew the best approaches, and we failed.” Staff do not feel engaged in CQI and complain about the extra work for which they see no value.

Instructions:

Read the scenario above and then, answer the following questions:

What are some of the barriers that could be influencing limited staff engagements?

What strategies might be used to overcome these barriers?

What are the pros and cons of the methods used to assess and describe the need for change?

  1. What are the common reasons staff members resist change?

Are standards of practice valuable sources of data for such a committee? Why or why not? Which ones might be of particular use?

Grand Canyon University Evidence Based Public Practices Discussion

Description

***Make a Comment***

The development, implementation, and evaluation of effective programs and policies is part of evidence-based public health practice. Also, the principles of scientific reasoning, use of systematic data, the use of information systems, program planning models, and the appropriate use of behavioral science theory is applied also within evidence-based public health practice (Department of Health & Human Services, 2010). Public health nursing is always evolving and there are always changes within clinical practices. How do public health nurses use available sources of evidence-based practice and apply them to keep up with the changes? A cross-sectional study was conducted to find what sources public health nurses utilized to gain knowledge for evidence-based clinical practice. The study showed that sources of knowledge used by public health nurses included national plans and guidelines, knowledge acquired while training as a public health nurse, personal experience, and guidelines and procedures issued by their local authorities (Weum et al., 2017). One source available to public health nurses (PHNs) is the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC is one of the major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services that conducts critical science and provides health information to protect our nation (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021). Another available source to PHNs is the World Health Organization (WHO) their effort is also to promote healthy living and to help keep the world safe. Within both these organizations you can find health information, studies, treatments, online classes, and education materials to help become knowledgeable within public health practice.
