According to research conducted at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever is the most common tick-borne viral disease affecting humans worldwide.

In 1999, the first case of humandiagnosis was discovered. Since then, it has been classed as an endemic “viral zoonotic disease” in Iran. The Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever is spread via tick bites or contact with contaminated animal blood or tissues. Agricultural and slaughterhouse employees are the most usually infected. Symptoms that appear early on include a rapid fever, headache, and muscle aches. Patients have hemorrhage in the bowels, urine, nose, and gums as the condition develops. Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever has a fatality rate of roughly 30%.
