Eastern Washington University Nursing Essay

Description

Pre-event activities for Students

  1. Listen to the 30-minute podcast: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/14/podcasts/the-daily/nursing-homes-antipsychotics.html
  2. Review the Antipsychotic Information Sheet
  3. Submit a written reflection:

In the podcast, it was stated that, “caring for our older people in this country is just simply not a priority. And it’s often really overlooked, which is really tragic.” This statement is through the lens of this patient’s story and thus may reflect a bias. Similarly, our own individual work and personal experiences may impact our perceptions leading to bias. Describe your experiences or inexperience that could impact how you interpret the content discussed in the podcast. Why is it important to recognize our own bias as healthcare professionals?

Post-event Reflection for Students

  1. Submit a written reflection:

Describe a work or personal experience that involved an ethical dilemma where you believed something was wrong and wanted to speak up, but may have felt reluctant or was unsure how to word it. Also, discuss if the experience with this interprofessional education event has helped you to feel more prepared in approaching those types of difficult situations.

Grand Canyon University Nursing Discussion

Question Description

I’m working on a nursing discussion question and need support to help me learn.

    • Epidemiology is the most important area of public health to me (or really, the area most of interest). I enjoy puzzles and problem-solving, as well as engaging with real-world data that has the potential to impact entire populations. The specialty is important to public health as a whole because understanding the etiology and distribution of health conditions in the community is the the beginning of addressing those causes and reducing the burden of disease in the population, thereby allowing individuals, families, and communities to live healthier lives. Given that the course is about population-based interventions, I would like to gain a better, practical, understanding of the planning, execution, and evaluation of such interventions, particularly with regard to epidemiology. I think the pandemic has provided an excellent opportunity to learn about epidemiology, though I would be interested in a more in-depth understanding of how a public health professional working in epidemiology might prepare an epidemiological intervention.
