Paragraph Development Standard Form and Fallacious Arguments Questions

Description

1. Identify the topic sentence or sentences

History has shown, time and time again, that when we come together, we are capable of big things. Our world today, despite its inequality and pain, is far better in so many ways than before. Collective action halved global illiteracy between 1970 and 2005. Worldwide life expectancy has risen from just forty-eight years in 1950 to over seventy-one today. In the last twenty-five years, child mortality around the world has halved. This is proof that we can succeed in tackling enormous developmental and existential challenges when we put people at the centre of everything that we seek to do.

2. Identify the method of paragraph development (e.g., description, process, examples, comparison/contrast, illustration, definition, classification)

South Alabama Plymouth Plantation Paper

Description

Are you tired of writing just what your instructors say to write? Sick of having to do what

someone else thinks is creative? Do you long to unleash that surge of creativity inside
you just waiting to get out? This is your lucky assignment! This could be one of the few
college papers you write that invites YOUR thoughts and ideas instead of what your
instructor may think or want. Finally, your creative day has come!
Tap into your creative juices to recreate a writing form representative of an author or age
between 1700 and 1880 that fate or the fates select for you from the bag of destiny in
class.  For instance, you might create a poem reconfiguring an understanding of nature
like Dickenson. Perhaps you might choose to create a ballad, scene, or short essay.
Whatever you decide, be sure to explain your creative work to your reader to ensure that
your creation will not be lost to posterity.  Also, include selecting the book to serve as a
representative model of what you are recreating.
Clearly explain to your audience how your creation fulfills the requirements of a certain
form or style of an author or period.  The main thing is that you provide some self-
reflective analysis on what you learned from the re-creative process.  You could, of
course, update material.  Certainly, our understanding of how to be enlightened today
differs from Bradford’s, but more importantly, the original concept remains based on that
of the Puritans and Native People. Perhaps our modern-day journey to find (or define)
democracy and America might be too contemporary politics or the values of our home
communities instead of what Franklin envisioned.
Disagree, if you so please, with or make a mockery of ANY authority or critic.
Washington Irving certainly did in “Rip Van Winkle.”  After all, a critic’s thoughts are
still just one individual perception.  Each artistic piece (if meritorious) speaks
metaphorically, in most cases, to readers/viewers across the ages.
To examine what you hear, feel, think, and associate with the style, form, or actual piece
when you begin your creation.  Explore the realm of what the work could mean and
consider why you think so.  My best advice to you is to enjoy your journey or quest to
become, above all else, an aspiring Renaissance mind! – “I await with great anticipation
to reading your most creative endeavors showing the fluidity of your mind and creativity
from your soul.”    MY PARTICULAR PERSON AND CREATIVE PEICE  SHOULD CONSULT In William Bradford’s “Plymouth Plantation”  he is writing a journal that was written over a period of years to describe the hardship of Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. Of Plymouth Plantation is considered the Puritan “plain style”—the literary style that stresses simple sentence constructions and a relatively small vocabulary. The plain style is a stylistic description of the Puritans’ simple and scattered lifestyle. I will use a journal narrative writing style to describe in deep detail the Christianity of William Bradford and the impact of the Mayflower. He wrote this story to inform the audience of hardships that the settlers had to encounter to reach the new land. Bradford’s tone throughout the story is a tone of faithfulness, It is shown how he speaks about the sailors necessity of God to survive the voyage hoping that they will be shown mercy. I will use William Bradford’s Masculine emotionless faith to compare to Mary Rowlandson’s feminine troubles and restoration. I will use a passionate and persuasive tone to compare and contrast the description between the two God-fearing individuals. I will describe the hardships they both encountered and how they accustomed their situations with their optimistic approach. I will make it my approach for the audience to have a better and easier understanding of these two authors and the reason for their strong faith and beliefs.

Early Medieval Europe Annotated Bibliography

Description

Introduction

The Annotated Bibliography is part of your final project.  Students are to provide annotations for five primary sources and five secondary sources that will then be used in the final project.  Sources should be directly related to the final project’s topic.  Annotations should be a paragraph (about 100 words).

For secondary sources, students should use high-quality scholarly sources, especially scholarly monographs or articles published in peer-reviewed academic journals. Students should avoid using the textbook, encyclopedia articles, or anonymously authored websites. ALL secondary sources, regardless of format (video, websites, articles, etc.) should be credible and authored by experts and professionals in their field of study geared towards an academic or higher education audience.

The bibliography should NOT include encyclopedias, textbooks, or websites and videos geared towards K-12 or authored (created and published) by unvetted, non-credible sources. For questions on this please watch the video by Dr. Campbell or ask your instructor.

For primary sources, students should be looking for documents that were originally written during the time period they are trying to study. While architectural or archaeological remains certainly do qualify as primary sources which can be used by scholars to reconstruct the past, they are problematic for an assignment like this. Written documents from the past should be your focus!

For questions regarding primary and secondary sources, please watch Dr. Campbell’s Video and do not hesitate to ask for clarification from your instructor.

Your Annotated Bibliography is due before the conclusion of Module 5. When you have completed this assignment, upload your work to Module 5: Annotated Bibliography: Submit Here.

What is an Annotated Bibliography?

An annotated bibliography is an organized list of sources (like a reference list). It differs from a straightforward bibliography in that each reference is followed by a paragraph length annotation, about 100 words in length.

What is the purpose of an Annotated Bibliography?

  • Provide a literature review on a particular subject
  • Help to formulate a thesis on a subject
  • Demonstrate the research you have performed on a particular subject
  • Provide examples of major sources of information available on a topic
  • Describe items that other researchers may find of interest on a topic

What am I required to include in my Annotated Bibliography?

For Primary Sources:

  • Bibliographic information according to Chicago style.
  • The name and background of the author, if known.
  • The date the document was originally written, if known.
  • The author’s purpose in writing the document and its historical context.
  • Any bias displayed by the author.
  • The significance of the document (i.e., why should anybody in the present care?).

For Secondary Sources:

  • Bibliographic information according to Chicago style.
  • The name and scholarly background of the author (education, publications, university appointments, etc.)
  • The author’s main argument (note, this is not the same thing as a simple description of the subject matter– what is the author trying to say about this subject?).
  • The specific types of evidence used to support the author’s main argument (are they primary sources? Scholarly secondary works?)
  • How successful/convincing is the author’s argument?

What are some examples of an Annotated Bibliography?

Here are some helpful resources that include examples of an Annotated Bibliography:

MN569 FIU Nursing Discussion

Description

I’ve put 3 kids through high school and sports physicals. And reading our assignment this week was eye opening! Knowing the why’s and how’s of the sports physical helped me understand the numerous sports physical visits I have attended with my kids.

Accepting the challenge of the organization’s goal of doing 150 school physicals over the course of 2 days is daunting but a valuable community service for those that don’t usually seek sports’ physicals and an important health visit at a crucial stage in a young person’s life (Colyar & Dunphy, 2019). Because this is a community-based service and it is likely the providers will not “know” or be familiar with all or some of the patients, I think the office-based approach with 3 -4 providers each day would be the best option. This would allow each provider to see 15 to 20 patients each day. The key would be adequate staffing to assist the providers with screening, testing, and history taking and this could be done in more of an assembly or station type environment. The office-based format has each provider seeing a single athlete at a time (Colyar & Dunphy, 2019). It allows for thorough review of the history and giving consultation for young adult concerns. The station format for the screening portion would allow the patient to move through stations set up around a large space and keep distance for privacy.

Utilizing the large meeting space with private exam areas with just screens and tables would be cost effective and allow for the screening and nursing staff to be in the middle serving all the providers. This would still allow for forward movement through stations but counseling time with providers. The disadvantage to the assembly line format is how impersonal “being moved” through stations may feel for the screening procedures. And the lack of continuity from one staff member to another. Communication tools and participation for concerning screening results would need to be in place to assure adequate history and the proper screening is done (Colyar & Dunphy, 2019).

Division of tasks is very much like any other office visit. Clinic and nursing staff collect paperwork and history forms from patients. Screening items that can be performed by nursing staff would include vital signs, visual acuity exam, and history taking. The physical exam would need to be conducted by a licensed healthcare provider like a DO, MD, PA, or NP (aap.org, 2021).  The challenge in the large area setting would be visualizing the musculoskeletal form. Such as screening for scoliosis. Undressing the young adults to have bare torsos would not be possible with just screens for privacy. This would be the most limiting factor to this environment.

In preparing for the program offering, advertising should include the benefits of the sports physical. 3 of the main objectives include determining general physical and psychological health of the young adults, evaluating for disabling or life-threatening conditions, and counseling on healthy life-style habits for a high-risk population (MacDonald et al., 2021). These valuable encounters allow young adults and healthcare providers to come together to discuss healthy behaviors and lifestyle.

I always appreciate my kids ARNP provider. She does diet, exercise, and sexual health conseling. The later done only with their permission or myself stepping out of the room offering for them to have a private conversation if necessary. The text readings and articles helped me understand all the paperwork, screenings, and exams done during my kids encounters. And now I understand how really valuable they were!

EDU 503 Belhaven University Condition of Dyslexia Discussion Response

Description

I think that the biggest misconception that I had before being trained in dyslexia is that they saw letters backwards or rearranged. The more I learned, I realized it is more of a recognition deficit with similar letters, lowercase b and d for example. They struggle with processing letters and patterns rather than just flipping the letters in a word. Also, you hear a lot of assumptions about there being a test for dyslexia. Knowing that there is not just a single test to determine if a child is dyslexic helps me better look out for any signs that a student might be exhibiting rather than just waiting for them to be tested. The earlier we start advocating for them, the sooner they are able to get the services they need to be successful.

I love using the gifted objectives in my classroom! I think that our state standards should include so many more social and emotional skills to help our students better process everything, including the academic skills. In a class that is half sped and half gifted, I always want to make sure my gifted students also grow. I try to get them to push beyond grade level academically, but more importantly socially. I have my gifted students practice leadership and effective communication by having them lead lessons or small groups. I have a ‘tutoring’ program in my room where if a student can demonstrate their ability to help a classmate understand their mistakes, they get to work with that student on test corrections but must show they did not just give them the answer. I also have them practice SEL situations and let them act them out for the class in order to teach and demonstrate appropriate responses. I differentiate my small group stations with them by giving them more hands on and creative tasks. They have a lot more options because they are better at processing multi step instructions and are able to work and problem solve as a team now. It took a little bit of pushing, but they have grown so much!

According to the Mississippi Best Practices Dyslexia Handbook, “Dyslexia is the result of a neurological difference beyond the control of the student. Motivation is not usually the primary problem for the student with dyslexia but may become a secondary problem because of continued lack of success in academic endeavors”. Additionally, Dyslexia is a neurological learning disorder that effects reading and phonics comprehension skills. Dyslexia is a lifelong learning disorder that cause be treated with early intervention program. Thusly, there are a lot of misconceptions about Dyslexia.

Before reading about the common misconceptions associated with Dyslexia, it was presumed that individuals with Dyslexia see words backsword; however, people with Dyslexia have difficulties oral language, reading and language components. As a child I had trouble before/after, right/left, etc. learning the alphabet, songs, understanding concepts and relationships, retrieving words or naming problems, learning to read. I was placed in an early intervention program, and I discovered that I had Dyslexia. This learning disorder caused me to try harder that other kids. Still today, I have to study harder to learn new material. However, this learning disability has caused me to understand how to support my students with learning disabilities.

Students with Dyslexia should receive accommodations. The accommodations should meet the requirements of the student’s IEP. If the student have not been diagnosed with Dyslexia, then the teacher will have to closely evaluate their students to see if they student shows any signed of the learning disorder. If the student shows signs the disorder, then the teacher must take the necessary steps to get the students tested and accommodated.

Essay 3

History from Artifacts

The final “essay” of the semester will be a fun assignment that allows you to create your own historical narrative basedon an archaeological object. This may seem an unusual task, but manyhistorians utilize a wide range of primary sources, which includes “material objects” or artifacts. Every historical object can be studied and interpreted to add to our understanding of human history. For this assignment, you willchoose one of the five objects below. The link will direct you to themuseum where the object is held and give you some basic informationabout its date, purpose, and manufacture place. You will then read the associated article for your object and use both the object and reading to answer the questions below. Finally, you will produce a fictional narrative that shows the proper use of your chosen object. You should consider the questions below and use them as a guide to writing your essay. Essentially, tell us about a day in the life of the object or the person using the object. How would an ancient Egyptian use it? Why (think what are the shared myths around the object according to your reading)?

You will be graded on whether you have fully addressed all the questions of the assignment and using the reading and object to create an accurate picture of how and why the object was being used. Finally, you will be graded on formatting, grammar, and spelling. Thefictional narrative should be double-spaced, 12 pt. font, and with 1”margins all around. Your “essay” portion should be approximately 500 words in length. Otherwise, how you tell your narrative is up to you. It can be from any perspective or point of view, and as long as your object is being used properly (including time and place –i.e. generally remain in ancient Egypt), you can have any characters or context for the story. If you have questions, see your GAs.

Your grade will be determined in the following ways:

Your guiding questions and essay are due April 22nd by 5 PM in the essay 3 Dropbox on Canvas.

Choose one of the following objects and then find the companion reading on Canvas under Week 13:

Name:

DUE APRIL 22nd BY 5 PM

Which object you have chosen? Why?

Describe the object? What does it look like? What is on it? How big is it?

According to your reading, what is the purpose of the object?

According to your reading, who used the object and how was this object used? For example, did the king use it? A priest? Was it accessible to anyone?

According to your reading, why was the significance to ancient Egyptian culture?

  • Using the reading and object to answer the guiding questions: 40%
  • Fictional narrative based on the evidence and accurate portrayal of the object in use: 40%

  • Mental Health & COVID Essay

    Description

Part I: The year 2020 saw over half a million people die of COVID and over 20,000 people die of gun violence. Lives were altered, livelihoods were upended and feelings of grief, stress, and anxiety became part of our lives. Share a personal experience, keeping within your own comfort level, of the negative or positive effects of 2020 on your own, or someone you know, mental health.

Part II: Review the module notes, readings, and resources in Part I.

Now let’s apply the module notes and readings to the following questions:

    1. Identify the potential risk and resilience factors that influenced the possibility of developing PTSD due to the COVID pandemic.
    2. Restrictions imposed because of the COVID-19 outbreak led to widespread isolation. Find 1 article related to the COVID pandemic’s impact on an underserved/vulnerable population and discuss how isolation led to an increased prevalence of PTSD within that population.
    3. Mass shootings are happening almost weekly, instilling fear, hopelessness, and hypervigilance in individuals and communities. Discuss how the trauma brought about by gun violence can lead to more severe symptoms of PTSD in children.
    4. You have read about some of the variables that contribute to the onset or exacerbation of PTSD. Explore your own community and identify what is being done there to address these issues. Some examples are social service programs, policies, or initiatives that support people living with, or at risk of developing PTSD.
    5. Identify one new piece of information you learned this week.

University of Maryland Global Campus W7 Coherence in Your Writing Discussion

    Description

This week, we have studied coherence — the flow from one idea to the next — in writing. Let’s practice introducing and recognizing coherence. We looked at four specific ways of improving coherence:

    • Transitional words and phrases

Internet users do not always think about how their internet data is being used. Nonetheless, collecting and using data about search habits is big business.

    • Repetition of key works and phrases

Companies are able to track the searches made by various demographics and use data about these searches to target advertisements to likely customers. Customers will see advertisements that match their interests, but they have give up some privacy in return.

    • Pronoun reference

For some customers, this loss of privacy is acceptable, while others are deeply concerned.

    • Parallelism

Customers may worry about their search data getting into the wrong hands or about further intrusion into their private lives.

    Initial post:

Select one paragraph of your research paper draft (selected paragraph is below) and examine it for examples of the above four coherence tools. If you do not find at least two of the tools in use, revise your paragraph so that it uses at least two of the tools. Post your paragraph here. Do not identify the coherence tools you used; you will be analyzing each other’s paragraphs in your guided response.

(In addition, the war also affects SCM through brain drain. During the World Wars, people fled war-infested countries to more peaceful locations. In the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, many Ukrainians have fled to countries such as Poland, Azerbaijan, and Kosovo. Others have lost their lives while attempting to protect their motherlands. Losing people significantly impacts countries, especially when these people are lost in the masses. These countries lose important professionals who play a crucial role in the supply chain’s smooth flow of goods and services (Bluszcz & Valente, 2022). In the long run, SCM is affected since experienced and highly skilled individuals lose their jobs. Recovering from such an amount of brain drain is difficult for countries, and they need decades to get back on their feet.)

    ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————

    Classmate response:

Choose the paragraph posted by one of your peers (paragraph picked is below), and try to identify the use of at least two coherence tools. Mention any ideas you have for improved coherence in the paragraph.

    Trent:

The United States faces potential conflict due to the rapid withdrawal from the War on Terror. President Biden saw the need to end America’s involvement in foreign wars that do not directly affect the United States, and pulled out all American troops from Afghanistan in a little less than a year. This has the Potential to empower terrorist groups such as ISIS or Al Qaeda and increases the possibility for them to try and attack America or its allies again. “The former intelligence officer, who preffered not to use his name, said that the hasy withdrawal and surrender to the Taliban and their terrorist allies offers encouragement to terrorists around the world to begin anew their terrorism campaigns.” (Davis, 2021, p.11). Throughout the past 20 years, the United States has maintained a strong precense in Aghanistan and had been able to keep terrorist groups such as ISIS and Al Qaeda under control. Now that the United States has withdrew and essentially surrendered to Al Qaeda, this could lead to a hostile takeover of thenation by the terrorist groups once again. Overall, this puts countries like israel and other nearby allies at risk of future terrorist attacks. While under the control of the United States, the Taliban had less access to many things like assets and supplies, this in turn weakened their progression. Now with the U.S. gone, they have all the freedom to gain strength and grow out of control.

LASC NUR 437 Self Care Plan Paper

    Description

    Self-Care Plan Assignment

Assignment Description: Self-care is personal and takes time and practice. Nurses/nursing

students experience numerous personal, academic, and practice-related stressors, impacting their

mental health. Self-care has the potential to enhance nurses’ ability to manage current stressors

and to build capacity for addressing future stress and burnout. Students will incorporate

evidence-based research or theoretical evidence that supports their selected self-care strategies

and reflect on implications of utilizing these strategies for their mental health.

Instructions: Students will include and articulate their own tailored self-care strategies via a

written plan and/or through development of an optional creative component, which is highly

encouraged (i.e., video, art, PowerPoint, poetry, concept map, etc.) to be uploaded to NURS 437

D2L Brightspace assignment drop box. For students who choose not to complete a creative

component, the written form of the assignment is a plan to include a personal written reflection

(no greater than 1 page). Students who complete a creative component are required to also

submit a brief written reflection (1-2 paragraphs) to accompany the creative work and to describe

the evidence base for their selected self-care strategies. Students must adhere to proper

Writing Mechanics, APA formatting, and include 1-2 evidence-based research journal

findings/citations within self-care plan to support self-care strategies.

    1. Perform a self-assessment: The first step to building a valuable care plan is assessment,

like that of the nursing process you are all familiar with. Think about what self-care

means to you in the context of your professional identify. How does the research

literature define self-care? Self-assessment should include more than physical

considerations but also spiritual, emotional, financial, psychological, and social. Reflect

upon whether you have any shortfalls in those areas of your life, both personally and

professionally. What are your priorities and are you spending time on things that are

important to you? What brings joy to your life? Are you currently practicing self-care?

    Are your current strategies helpful?

    2. Diagnose your areas for improvement: Determine the areas you would like to focus on

for growth and improvement. Reflect upon why it is important for healthcare

Professionals to understand and engage in self-care practices? Identify the underlying

issue knowing that other problems can manifest, hoping to identify the root of the issue

    versus the symptom.

    3. Develop self-care plan and intervention(s): Create a plan for 1-2 of your areas for

improvement (#2) and growth including personal care strategies documented in the

literature to support personal and professional resilience. Reflect upon advantages for

healthcare professionals to address mental health practices. Set measurable and attainable

short- and long-term goals for yourself. Short-term goals allow you to celebrate small

victories to keep you motivated. Offer yourself a variety of different approaches and

activities that take differing amounts of effort and time, such as:

  • Physical: annual physicals, cancer screenings, healthy eating, sleep, exercise, or
  • stretching

  • Emotional: imagery or relaxation techniques, positive internal thoughts and dialogue,
  • mindfulness, socialization, or books and activities that promote joy

  • Spiritual: nature, random acts of kindness, prayer, religious community, meditation or
  • yoga, or positive mantras

  • Social: journaling, boundaries between work and home life, time with loved ones, time
  • for relaxation, or community groups

  • Financial: living fiscally responsibly, preparing for emergencies, budgeting, or
  • borrowing or buying second hand instead of new

  • Psychological: coloring or making something, play and playfulness, or activities that
  • bring you joy and stimulate your mind

    4. Implement your plan/creative component: Start small and remember to always be kind

to yourself. Schedule self-care activities on your calendar. Involve friends and/or family,

etc., to keep yourself accountable. Just like our patients need a support system through

their illness and wellness journey, we need support on our self-care journey.

ideals of beauty OR Sappho Paper

    Description

Discussion — ideals of beauty OR Sappho

This week, we’re looking at ancient and Classical Greece and its culture. We’ve studied literature, philosophy, art, architecture, poetry, and music.

We’ve got two questions this week. You choose which one you want to answer.

    1. The statues of Classical Greece set the standards of physical beauty for western civilization: broad-shouldered, slim-hipped, muscular, long-legged men. Women who are soft-bodied, neither too thin nor too fat, whose curves would not be threatening to men who already fear and distrust women (no Marilyn Monroes here!); whose hands modestly cover their genitals, and whose faces look down in submission. Faces with typically Caucasian (white) features.

Choose one portrayal of either a man or a woman (or both) from any Western culture in the last hundred years. It can be a painting, a photograph, an advertisement, any image, Compare it to what we have seen as the standards of physical beauty of Classical Greek art.

Do NOT choose an image from the Hellenistic, Roman, or neo-Classical period — those are time periods in which the art was influenced by classical Greek art. So you’d be comparing apples with apples. Give yourself something to work with!

Write at least a paragraph, of at least five sentences, comparing and analyzing the image you’ve chosen. You are looking at how the image reflects (or doesn’t) the classical Greek standards of beauty, as seen in their statues.

Include the image you’ve chosen as a comparison, and any classical Greek statues you are comparing it to specifically.

This next part of Question 1 is totally voluntary (in other words, you can do it or not, your choice, no questions asked, and no points taken off if you don’t answer this part of the discussion, but extra credit if you do): how have the Greek ideals of physical beauty have influenced and effected your own life?

    2. Let’s talk about Sappho. There are a few things I want to talk about, so you’ve got your choice. Choose ONE of the questions below.

    a. I’ve given you two translations of the same poem… what differences do you notice in the translations? To what would you attribute those differences? Is one translation easier for you to understand than the other? Why? Why not?

    b. There are scholars who claim that Sappho was not actually a lover of women — not a lesbian, in other words, but that she wrote the way she did (in hetero-normative language) because at that time and place, women were not supposed to express the kind of physical, sensual and loving longing, desires and emotions that she makes so clear in her poems. What do you think is at the base of this claim? In other words, why do you think some scholars feel it appropriate to make this claim about Sappho? What do you think this indicates about the changing attitude towards homosexuality — from Classical Greece, where it was accepted, to today?

    Directions:

Your post must be well thought out, and have some substance to it. Use examples/evidence to back up your statements. Include details from the readings.
