Question Description

I’m working on a writing discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Many of the artists you are listening to this week were influenced by jazz. This was a departure of sorts from some of the other musical reference points of other hip-hop artists. Discuss a contemporary artist (in any genre) who you think has been influenced by what might be considered an unusual source of inspiration (an example may be a country artist who is influenced by classical music).  Describe—in an original post of 200 words minimum—the influence in the particular artist you choose. If possible, include a link to a song by your chosen artists that exemplifies the influence you describe.

(Please do not select an artist that is already on our syllabus!)

The first board failed in 80 hours, the second failed in 150 hours, the third failed in 350 hours, the fourth in 465 hours. The other boards completed the 500-hour test satisfactorily. What is the mean life of the product?

8. A power station has installed 10 new generators to provide electricity for a local metropolitan area. In the past year (8,760), two of those generators have failed, one at 2,460 hours and one at 5,962 hours. It took five days, working 24 hours a day, to repair each generator. Using one year as the test period, what is the mean time between failures for these generators? Given the repair information, what is the availability of all 10 generators?

LSC Review of Philadelphia Discussion

Description

You be the critic. Write a movie review of a movie about a real US court case, for example, the 2016 movie Loving. The movie review must be 100% your own creation in your own words. It should include this information:

1. Summary of the movie.

2. What you think about the movie.

3. What you think about the movie in terms of the actual court case involved. If you select the movie Loving, tell me what you think about the movie in terms of the Loving v. Virginia opinion by the US Supreme Court. This means that you should look up the actual case so that you can talk about it in your movie review.

This is intended to be a fun and creative extra credit assignment, but your submission must be worthy of 50 points in every way (think correct grammar and substantive creativity). The review should be at least two double-spaced pages in length.

I shouldn’t have to say this, but do not go to a movie review website and copy the movie review as your own work. This is plagiarism and a silly thing to do on an extra credit assignment.

I am providing some movies below. You are welcome to choose a different movie, but you MUST be able to tell me about the real-life case. ***Email me to get approval if you choose to write about a movie not listed below.***

HERE ARE SOME PRE-APPROVED MOVIES:

Loving is a 2016 British-American biographical romantic drama that tells the story of Richard and Mildred Loving, the plaintiffs in the 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1 (1967). This Supreme Court case invalidated state laws prohibiting interracial marriage. The film takes inspiration from The Loving Story (2011) by Nancy Buirski, a documentary that follows the Lovings and their landmark case.

“A Civil Action” (1998)
Written and directed by Steven Zaillian (“Schindler’s List”), this is about a 1980’s water contamination case in Massachusetts and the lawyer who argued that two corporations were culpable for the deaths of many children from leukemia.

“Erin Brockovich” (2000)
Directed by Steven Soderbergh and based on the real events surrounding a covered-up environmental catastrophe not dissimilar to the one that inspired “A Civil Action,” only this time the contaminated water is in a small town in California in the early ’90’s. Erin Brockovich is based on a real woman, who, acting as a legal clerk, was instrumental in obtaining a three hundred million dollar settlement for the victims.

“Philadelphia” (1993)
This Tom Hanks-Denzel Washington drama was inspired in part by two different attorneys with AIDS who had sued their employers for wrongful termination, in 1987 and 1990. They were among the first to bring charges of discrimination based on an HIV diagnosis.

University of Oxford The Reluctant Receptionist Essay

Description

Description

Read the texts from your friend Ginny below, and answer ONE of the questions.

Your Friend Ginny: Hey, I need your advice! Did I tell you that Superior Products Company hired me as their new HR assistant a few months ago? That BA in HR Management really paid off, right?!

You: Great news, congrats! Do you like it?

Ginny: Thanks! It’s good and bad. Mrs. Mills, the HR Director, said she was really glad to find someone who had a background in HRM because she was basically the entire HR department until I got there. She said I would be her second in command and that I’d primarily do recruiting, some interviewing and be responsible for maintaining employee records. Because Superior has ~300 employees, Mrs. Mills was too busy to give me an up-to-date job description (I think she just rewrote her own old job description). First warning sign!

You: Oh no! TGTBT?

Ginny: Well, it gets worse! Everything was great the first two weeks. Then about a month ago, Mrs. Mills tells me that there was another “minor” duty that she forgot about. She said that to get approval to hire me she had to agree that the new HR assistant would cover for the receptionist from 11:30 to 12:30 every day when the receptionist takes lunch. I wasn’t thrilled about that being sprung on me, but I agreed I’d try it for a while. That whole “other duties as assigned…” thing!

You: So is it working out? Why do you need my advice?

Ginny: (sigh) I am hating working the switchboard and front desk every day! Plus, the receptionist often comes back late, and I can’t leave the desk until she relieves me. Then I found out I’m also expected to cover when she’s sick or takes personal time (which already happened FOUR TIMES)! I’m considering quitting.

You: No way! Do you really hate it that badly?

Ginny: I don’t know…I really like the HR parts of the job and I know I’m doing well, but being a relief receptionist is taking up way too much of my time – and it’s definitely not what I spent 4 years in school to do! I mean, Mrs. Mills basically misrepresented the job to me, right? She never said anything about the receptionist duties until after I was hired. If she had, I probably wouldn’t have taken the job! What should I do?

Respond to the following:

What should Mrs. Mills have done to more accurately portray the position responsibilities? Was it enough that the job description included a “miscellaneous clause” (other duties as assigned)? Why or why not? What could Mrs. Mills do to alleviate some of Ginny’s stress (and better motivate her new employee)?

Lewis University Philosophy Essay

Description

Background.  In 1949, Joseph Campbell published The Hero With a Thousand Faces, arguing that stories of mythic heroes typically follow a cyclic pattern, which he called the “monomyth” or “hero’s journey.”  His notion, that the power of heroic stories derives from this deeply-ingrained pattern, has been enormously influential to writers and interpreters of fiction – Campbell’s lectures on the Hero’s Journey, for example, famously inspired George Lucas to create Star Wars.  The notion has been considerably more controversial among scholars of mythology, who have been concerned, less with what makes a gripping yarn, than with whether the patterns of the monomyth truly reflect the history of mythology.

Question.  In an essay of 1250-1500 words (5-7 pages), evaluate the applicability of Campbell’s theory of the monomyth to the ancient hero myths we have considered.   With his “hero’s journey,” did Campbell discover a genuinely universal historical pattern, or (given its popularity with novelists and screenwriters) is the monomyth an effort to force modern standards for fictional entertainment onto the sacred stories of the past?  In addressing the question, your essay should incorporate the following elements:

What are the elements of the monomyth? Are all stages of the hero’s journey equally important?

To what extent do the stages of the monomyth correspond to our own hero myths? Are there any points where the theory doesn’t apply?  What does this mean for the applicability of the theory to the myth?

What do your findings mean for the historical validity of Campbell’s theory?

Research.  Your essay must make use of at least three peer-reviewed scholarly sources.  These sources can address a number of different questions, including:

What exactly is Campbell’s theory of the monomyth?

What kinds of criticisms have been leveled against Campbell’s theory?

Has Campbell’s theory already been applied to one or more of our hero stories? Do you think their treatment is accurate?

  • Issues. There are any number of themes that you might select, including (but not limited to) the following:
  • Do some of our stories fit Campbell’s pattern better than others? What does this mean for the applicability of these myths to modern audiences?
  • The basic principle of the “hero’s journey” is that, in the end, we can learn something about our own lives from the adventures of these heroes. What are the principle lessons you see conveyed by our hero stories, and to what extent are they dependent on Campbell’s pattern?

Many of you argued that Ovid is more engaging and entertaining that Aristotle. How is the entertainment value of hero stories related to their ability to move us?

In your research, you may find strong criticisms and affirmations of Campbell’s theory. Do you think these are warranted by your reading of the texts?

University of Houston University of Houston Production of Shakespeare Play Henry V Critique

Description

write a critique about the production of this Play called Henry V that I attend to at school. I will upload an actual picture of the stage and how the actors were dressed at the beginning. There was a king of England dressed the way kings usually dress and also two ladies (actors) speaking French while acting.
I wrote the answers to the questions below ??The theme is about King Henry V. I agreed with the play’s message because the qualities that define a good person aren’t always the same as the qualities that define a good ruler. You can be a good person but as a ruler you have to make some decisions according to your obligations. The protagonist of the is king Henry V and the antagonist is Lewis,The Dauphin of France and the eldest son the king of France. Henry’s goal was to claim the throne of France as his throne because his great-great grandmother was a daughter of the king of France and to retaliate for the disrespect shown by Dauphin. The Dauphin’s goal was to capture King Henry and bring in a chariot to France. Their motivation made sense because leaders of any kingdom have the necessity to fight for their honor and dignity. The primary conflict was when Henry led his army to invade France. The best actor was the guy that played the role of king because his British accent was on point and his body language or gestures were very similar to an actual king. The was actor was the guy that played the role as the emissary from France. He seemed to be a little bit tense and he hesitated or forgot his lines. The play set contributed for my understanding of the play’s story, characters and theme by way that being readjusted or readapted to illustrate or fit any event that was taking place. The play’s costume contributed for my understanding of the play because it allowed me to distinguish between the kings , his armies members and the princess. And also allowed me to have an idea of the time or era and where all these events were taking place. The play’s lighting contributed to my understanding of play focusing on the protagonist or antagonist whenever an important event or action was happening. The play’s sound was good because I could hear loud and clear what the actors were saying and understand better the play.King Henry married the French princess to unite and claim the throne of France. The actress that played the role of French princess was amazing. His accent was excellent. I speak French too so I can assure her proficiency in French.

Eastern Gateway Community College Dallas City Essay

Description

The purpose of the  Organization Essay is to apply the tools learned in Unit 3 on  Organization to write an organized essay that has both focus and shape.

Here are the details:

Do some brainstorming, freewriting, reaction, etc. to come up with  an essay topic. It could be a topic from your Reader Response in the  last Unit, or it can be a whole different topic.

When you get a specific topic, create a thesis using the Topic +  Claim About Topic = Thesis formula in this unit. Also, consider the  tools of audience and expectation for this essay. The audience is going  to be your instructor, but you might be thinking of other readers as  well. The expectation is this is a formal college essay.

  1. Now that you have your thesis, spend some time thinking of at least 3  points to support the thesis. You should have at least 3 points for an  essay this size but no more than 5.
  2. Develop an outline where you have your introduction, the body made up of 3 to 5 points and a conclusion.
  3. Now that you have an outline, you will write your essay. This is  just a matter of writing in the details for each of the points that you  listed in your outline.
  4. After writing your essay, spend some time revising and editing. Are  there points you want to add or go more in-depth with to support your  thesis? Did you proofread for mechanical errors?
  5. Give the essay a title.
  6. You  do not need to do any research for this essay. You may write on a topic  you are familiar with so that you can use your own knowledge and  experience to support the thesis. The Research Paper in Unit 7 is where  you will have to use research. At this point, you may use all your own  knowledge in developing the content of this Organization Essay.
  7. Although you may develop your own thesis, here are some ideas for a  potential thesis that you may choose from if you need some help coming  up with something. The ideas below give the claim, you would just put  your own topic in the blank. These ideas could be modified to suit your  needs as well. They are just ideas to help get you started.

1.______________is the most environmentally friendly vehicle in today’s crowded society.

(You could choose a vehicle you consider friendly to the environment  and put it in the above blank as your topic. When reading with the  claim, you would have your thesis)
