GE02400 UF Human Geography Mental Health and Covid-19 Discussion

Description

GE02400 Human Geography Mental Health and Covid-19

In the first assignment you looked at the different types of diffusion to see how and why cultural attributes, such as music, spread from a hearth. Not everything that spreads from a hearth, however, is as positive as music; indeed, it also includes things like disease. Experts agree that Covid-19 originated in Wuhan, China and has now spread to 188 countries around the world, including the US. Most of the governments of the world were quick to respond by encouraging people to refrain from going to work, visiting friends and family, and avoiding any type of non-essential travel. This left many of us at home for much longer periods of time than we are used to and it has had some negative outcomes on our mental health. In this assignment, you are going to discuss your personal experiences with Covid-19. Please answer all questions in a new word document or pdf (any other file type will receive 0) and submit them to Canvas.

Question

1. The response for this week will be a little different, because we are not going to collect data, or analyze policies. Instead, I want this to be an opportunity for you to understand how to express emotions in a healthy way. After taking some time to reflect about your feelings, I want you to explain how the spread of Covid-19 has affected your mental health. This could be anything from less time with friends, to more time with family, to loss of income, to no change at all. Please try to write at least one full page. Please be aware that I must report any attempts of self-harm or abuse. I will also post my response to this question in the module, because I believe it is important to be open about mental health struggles.

Eastern Gateway Community Reading E Books vs Reading Physical Copies Discussion

Description

The purpose of the Compare and Contrast Assignment is to take two  topics of your own choice and write a 2 full-page Compare and Contrast  Essay using the organization techniques (Topic-by-Topic or Item-by-Item)  presented in Unit 4.

Here are the details:

1. Choose two topics of your choice to compare and contrast. You are  not required to do any research for this essay, so this assignment  encourages you to pick topics you know about so that you can use your  own knowledge to build the content of the essay. Below, there will be  some examples of compare and contrast topics, but you may pick your own.  Ask your instructor if you have difficulty in finding topics.

2. When you choose your topics, spend some time brainstorming to  find three items you can compare between the two topics. The example  here is how in the Unit 4 lecture notes we found the items of Cost, Size  and Teachers for our Community College and University essay. Again, the  items you choose will be your decision about what you would like your  essay to focus on. Use your judgment of what you feel is most important  to discuss between the two topics.

3. Decide whether to use the Topic-by-Topic pattern or the  Item-by-Item pattern. Either pattern is valid, so use the one you are  most comfortable with. When you decide on your pattern, create an  Outline as we did in the Unit 4 notes for Community Colleges and  Universities.

4. Be sure that your essay has an introduction that has the four  points listed in the lecture notes, not necessarily in the order given  in the notes: Topic, Thesis, Attention Grabber, Signposting. (Note, if  you decide to write the essay inductively by not having the thesis in  the introduction but in the conclusion, that is acceptable, so in place  of the thesis in the introduction, you may ask a question and/or explain  the purpose of the essay).

University of Houston Downtown History Discussion

Description

Using the primary texts supplied, choose two pro-slavery and two anti-slavery documents and write a 750-word essay that examines how the proponents and opponents of slavery used the analytical concepts that framed this course when making their arguments (Mobility, Democracy, Capitalism, and Difference). You should identify the authors’ main point, and utilizing two of the four concepts, examine how they defended their positions. Your paper should conclude by explaining why some contemporaries of slavery may have found certain arguments compelling, while others found them offensive (to conclude effectively, you will need to explain the historical context in which these texts were written, based on what you have read in the U.S. History text and learned in class discussion).

Please note that the proslavery texts reflect the racism found in many quarters of nineteenth-century America. As historians, it is only right that we reject these views as we analyze how these writers constructed their defense of slavery. Other researchers have noted that the proslavery appeal to racism was intended to undermine the Abolitionist efforts to put forth “all men are created equal” as the core American value (see the antislavery texts). Please beware that the level of racism seen in these documents can be shocking and disturbing to modern readers.

I want to make one aspect of this assignment very clear. YOU ARE NOT ARGUING FOR OR AGAINST SLAVERY. Rather, this assignment is a document analysis. Your job, as the author of a signature assignment, is to IDENTIFY AND EXPLAIN the arguments being made in the primary sources discussing slavery. As this is a survey-level history class, we are concerned with historical views on the institution of slavery when it was a major point of contention in American society and politics in the 1800s, not modern views of slavery.

No secondary sources, other than the U.S. History text, should be integrated into this paper’s analysis.

GCCCD Do Not Be Afraid to Ask for Help Analysis

Description

In this activity we will learn about the importance of creating a support system.  We all need a support system to succeed.  In fact, since the day we were born, we have all relied on help from the people in our lives at some level.  Maya Angelou once said, “Nobody but nobody can make it out here alone.”  Whenever I talk about creating a support system, I always recommend that we get into the mindset of our inner child.  Children often ask for help without reservation, but somehow we lose some of that ability over time for a variety of reasons.  Maybe help wasn’t readily available, maybe those closest to us didn’t know how to help, maybe it was a negative experience that taught you not to ask for help.  Whatever that reason is, it’s important to not let that become an obstacle to your success.

College is difficult.  You are here to learn; so remember that you are not expected to know everything.  So at times, you will be required to ask for help in order to reach your goals.  This means your support system in college may look a lot different from previous chapters in your life.  In fact, your college support system may include people you don’t know yet, so being open to new experiences is key.  Let’s explore your thoughts and beliefs on the topic of help.

Assignment:

  1. Watch the short 6-minute video, Don’t be Afraid to Ask for HELP (Links to an external site.).
  2. Write down the following 6 sentence stems and complete the sentence stems according to your thoughts and feelings:
    1. When someone asks me for help I usually feel…
    2. When asking someone for help I usually feel…
    3. I usually don’t ask for help from others because…
    4. I am comfortable providing help to others when…
    5. I am comfortable asking for help from others when…
    6. One thing I could use help with today is…

Mrs MC, a 53-year-old woman presents with symptoms of irritability, low mood and feeling that she cannot cope. She has been experiencing these symptoms for the past month, but has been reluctant to bother the nurse about them. She has been experiencing family problems with her husband and children for the last several months. She has asthma, but she denies that this is problematic at the moment. She has previously smoked 20 cigarettes per day and managed to stop six months ago. Now she feels so low that she has started smoking again, although she says she can’t really afford to.

Mrs MC accepts that she hasn’t been getting out of the house much recently when her family have asked her to go out with them, but adds that she is less active during the winter months anyway; she often prefers to stay in and watch television. Her husband has commented that she is drinking more alcohol than normal.

A friend had recommended that she takes St John’s wort for her mood and she has been for the last few weeks. She says that she hasn’t noticed any significant change, but feels more anxious about her life and wants to know what can be done to help.

Outside of the rhetoric, do you agree with this argument? Why or why not?
