WU Diagnosis for Pain in Lower Back Discussion

Description

The body is constantly sending signals about its health. One of the most easily recognized signals is pain. Musculoskeletal conditions comprise one of the leading causes of severe long-term pain in patients. The musculoskeletal system is an elaborate system of interconnected levers that provides the body with support and mobility. Because of the interconnectedness of the musculoskeletal system, identifying the causes of pain can be challenging. Accurately interpreting the cause of musculoskeletal pain requires an assessment process informed by patient history and physical exams.

In this Discussion, you will consider case studies that describe abnormal findings in patients seen in a clinical setting.

To prepare:

  • By Day 1 of this week, you will be assigned to one of the following specific case studies for this Discussion. Please see the “Course Announcements” section of the classroom for your assignment from your Instructor.
  • Your Discussion post should be in the Episodic/Focused SOAP Note format rather than the traditional narrative style Discussion posting format. Refer to Chapter 2 of the Sullivan text and the Episodic/Focused SOAP Template in the Week 5 Learning Resources for guidance. Remember that all Episodic/Focused SOAP notes have specific data included in every patient case.
  • Review the following case studies:

A 42-year-old male reports pain in his lower back for the past month. The pain sometimes radiates to his left leg. In determining the cause of the back pain, based on your knowledge of anatomy, what nerve roots might be involved? How would you test for each of them? What other symptoms need to be explored? What are your differential diagnoses for acute low back pain? Consider the possible origins using the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) guidelines as a framework. What physical examination will you perform? What special maneuvers will you perform?

Kenyatta University Natural Birth Discussion

Description

Select one of the following client situations. For that client situation, please address the following:

  • Identify one ethical principle that directly applies to the client.
  • Explain two nursing interventions that would comply with ethical and legal standards when caring for the client.

Client Situation One

You are caring for a mother and infant. The mother delivered a healthy baby at term, but her HIV status is positive. The mother has been taking anti-retroviral agents during her pregnancy as ordered. After the birth of the infant, the baby is begun on anti-retroviral therapy. When the father of the baby goes down to the cafeteria, the mother confides in the RN that her partner is unaware of her HIV status. It is important to her that you keep this information confidential and she asks you to tell the other nurses that they need to be silent on this topic. She does not want you to say what type of medication you are administering to the infant so that you do not disclose her HIV status. She asks you to state that acetaminophen is being administered for comfort if her husband asks.

OR

Client Situation Two

You are caring for a client in active labor.  The client and her partner have expressed their desire for a natural birth and have declined medical interventions such as IV placement and continuous fetal monitoring.  The client did consent to intermittent fetal monitoring.  During the period of fetal monitoring, the RN notes repetitive late deceleration and fetal bradycardia of 90 BPM.  The RN receives orders to initiate an IV Stat, and to prepare the client for an immediate cesarean section. The client declines to have the IV started and states she wants time to discuss the cesarean with her partner.

ASPN ANOVA Reflection Discussion

Description

Whether in a scholarly or practitioner setting, good research and data analysis should have the benefit of peer feedback. For this Discussion, you will perform an article critique on ANOVA testing. Be sure and remember that the goal is to obtain constructive feedback to improve the research and its interpretation, so please view this as an opportunity to learn from one another.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the Learning Resources and the media programs related to ANOVA testing.
  • Search for and select a quantitative article specific to your discipline and related to ANOVA testing. Help with this task may be found in the Course guide and assignment help linked in this week’s Learning Resources. Also, you can use as guide the Research Design Alignment Table located in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Select an article related to education

BY DAY 3

Write a 3- to 5-paragraphs critique of the article. In your critique, include responses to the following:

  1. Which is the research design used by the authors?
  2. Why did the authors use ANOVA test?
  3. Do you think it’s the most appropriate choice? Why or why not?
  4. Did the authors display the data?
  5. Do the results stand alone? Why or why not?
  6. Did the authors report effect size? If yes, is this meaningful?

Be sure to support your Main Post and Response Post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA Style.

ELAC Promoting Physical Activity Programs Presentation

Description

For this modules assignment please do the following:

1. Review the CDC’s page titled: Promoting Health for Older Adults (Promoting Health for Older Adults | CDC)

    • Please note that it is also included as a PDF file in this module.

2. Then chose one of the featured steps to improve the health of older adults found below:

  • Helping those with dementia remain active, independent, and involved in their community as long as possible.
  • Providing resources to help caregivers stay healthy and deliver quality care to their care recipients.
  • Increasing early assessment and diagnosis, risk reduction, and prevention and management of chronic diseases for people with or at risk for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
  • Increasing the use of other clinical preventive services like blood pressure checks, cancer screenings, and blood sugar testing.
  • Increasing the number of people who speak to a health care provider about their worsening memory.

  • Promoting physical activity programs to reduce the risk of dementia, arthritis pain, and falls.

3. You will then create a pamphlet with four sections (or four slides or panels) about your chosen step. The purpose of this pamphlet is to promote your step of choice. Your pamphlet can be completed by hand (evidently it would need to be neat) and you can submit pictures of it, or you can proceed to complete it through other “more professional means.”

Your pamphlet can include any of the following (keep in mind that these are only ideas, please be creative)

  • Colorful Images
  • Important Statistics
  • Information on Research Findings
  • Ideas about costs and other financial considerations
  • Suggestions about organizations that could help in the process
  • Advantages of implementing your chosen step

Our Lady of the Lake University Process Recordings Paper

Description

A process recording is a written tool field education experience students, field instructors, and faculty use to examine the dynamics of social work interactions in time. Process recordings can help in developing and refining interviewing and intervention skills. By conceptualizing and organizing ongoing activities with social work clients, you are able to clarify the purpose of interviews and interventions, identify personal and professional strengths and weaknesses, and improve self-awareness. The process recording is also a useful tool in exploring the interpersonal dynamics and values operating between you and the client system through an analysis of filtering the process used in recording a session.

Agency Information: The agency offers a residential alternative to detention and provides rehabilitation and therapeutic services to the residents. Therapeutic services provided by the agency include group and individual counseling sessions. Other services offered by the agency include; vocational education training, health and wellness, mentorship, counseling, life planning skills, referrals for healthcare, tutoring, and transportation, among others. The agency makes it a priority to rehabilitate and improve the lives of male youths who are found guilty of certain crimes.

For this Assignment, you will submit a process recording of your field education experiences specific to this week.

The Assignment (2–4 pages):

  • Provide a transcript of what happened during your field education experience, including a dialogue of interaction with a client.
  • Explain your interpretation of what occurred in the dialogue, including social work practice or theories, and explain how it might relate to evaluation covered this week.
  • Describe your reactions and/or any issues related to your interaction with a client during your field education experience.
  • Explain how you applied social work practice skills when performing the activities during your process recording.

AUST Disparities and Inequalities Iterature Review

Description

Discuss the intellectual conversation on your issue. The Literature Review analyzes existing literature and places your thinking in that intellectual conversation (or better, given you’re working in more than one discipline, those intellectual conversations).

For your literature review, include minimally 10 sources, all of which must be JOURNAL articles, also known as “scholarly” or “academic” or “refereed” sources. To repeat, for this literature review all of your sources will be JOURNAL articles (which you obtain online: look in ASU Libraries’ journal indexes – best to search by “subject,” i.e. discipline). A minimal research effort could earn a minimal grade, so the better effort you make the better chances you have of earning a better grade. (More than ten is a good thing!)

Join the ongoing academic conversation(s) related to your research issue. And make your tentative argument as clear as you possibly can, somewhere near the beginning, and again near the end of the literature review.

It is CRUCIAL that your literature review bears evidence of interdisciplinary thinking. We’ll expect more of that in your final paper for this course, but your Lit Review ought to attend to interdisciplinarity in some meaningful way or ways. Put Repko and Menken & Keestra to work: find “common ground,” integrate, achieve a more comprehensive (interdisciplinary) understanding…

(ALSO) IMPORTANT:

Name and follow the style guide (for citations and references) of your choice. (Whatever your choice, be consistent within that style.)

At the top of your Reference Page: NAME it (“This paper follows APA, MLA, MLA,” or whatever you choose…) If you aren’t able to follow one of these common style guides, you’re also welcome to follow the citation and referencing style in the article by McCormack that appears in the Course Pack.

Intergovernmental Panel on Legal Climate Change Article Writing Question

Description

Short Assignment: Follow a Shifting Cityhttps://www.umces.edu/futureurbanclimates

For this assignment, pick a city in the continental US (or Alaska) and see how its climate is predicted to change over the next few decades.

To do this:

Go to the web app discussed in the reading

Find the nearest city for which the app has data

Check the future climate for both the “Current High Emissions” and the “What if we Reduce Emissions?” scenarios.

Then, write up what you found:

First, explain why you chose that particular city. Then describe the results. How will the climate in that city change over the next few decades? How do the two emissions pathways differ in their effects? Would would these changes affect people living in those cities? What unique aspects of those cities might be lost?

Short Assignment: Species at Risk

Pick a species of plant or animal. Then, find some information online about what is likely to happen to that species over the next few decades. Is this species predicted to do well or poorly in the future? Why?

Make sure you draw from reputable sources and provide links to your sources in your answer.

Make sure your answer connects to at least 1 concept mentioned in the video and/or optional articles on Biodiversity

Tips:

Don’t just focus on charismatic megafauna (polar bears, pandas, etc.). You can even choose a species that people don’t like, such as mosquitos.

While Climate Change is a major threat to many species, it is not always the most pressing threat. For example, many species are facing extinction due to habitat destruction, competition from non-native species, or disease.

Do not plagiarize from your sources. If you use either their words or their arguments, you must cite them appropriately.
