CCC Dress for Success Discussion

Purpose

The goal of this assignment is to practice creating an attractive document in Word, as well as become familiar with business dress codes.

Instructions

Business casual sounds like a breeze—no more worries about what to wear to work, right? Not quite. In fact, this dress code guideline is a frequent source of confusion for workers. And it’s not their fault — there really isn’t a clear, standardized definition. Business casual may mean different things at different companies, cities, and industries. And on top of that, understanding the subtle differences between “business” and “business casual” isn’t easy.

So here is your assignment:

Imagine you work for a mid-size company, Janssen Electronics, that deals with vendors, other corporate executives and the public. Lately, the employees have become too relaxed in their appearance, i.e., ripped jeans, inappropriate tops, sandals and dirty shoes, unclean and messy hair, sloppy demeanor and a “no-care” attitude. It is getting out of hand!  

Since there has been no formal handbook page regarding the dress code for your company, you, as the administrative assistant, have been given the task to create a Dress Code page for your Employee Handbook. 

Research both business professional and business casual attire online. 

Using MS Word, create a one-page document (8.5″ x 11″) entitled Business Casual Dress Code.

1. Begin with a brief paragraph explaining the need for a standard dress code.

Include a second paragraph describing the most important differences between “professional/formal” and “casual” office attire. Let your staff know that business casual is acceptable on a day-to-day basis, though they should be prepared to switch to business professional for more formal clients or events.

Describe at least five (5) clothing requirements your staff will need to follow for a business casual office environment. Include details about tops, bottoms, hair/grooming, jewelry and shoes. (Just using images will not be acceptable).
