QUESTION (1). The QSEN video (available in the lecture area of the Weekly Content for Week 7) explores each of the competencies/areas that encompass much of the health care environment. These attributes align with the 10 SON concepts and the GU core professional competencies (CPCs). We have explored both in this course.

Devise a plan to ensure the incorporation of each QSEN standard into your clinical practice.

Include the following aspects in the discussion:

• Describe the knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to each competency
• How will you recognize the patient as the source of control and partner in care?
• How will you integrate evidence with your expertise and patient preferences?
• How will you provide for patient safety and mitigate hazards?
• How will you individualize patient care based on research?
• Provide a specific example of the application of the standards to your practice
• Discuss the examples with your peer.

• QUESTION 2 The text considers patient-centered care a core competency for nurses. Remember the QSEN video did so as well and it is one of the SON concepts. Clearly, the patient is at the heart of everything we do, although it may not feel that way in clinical practice. Your ability to impact patient-centered care is significantly improved with your knowledge and skill level. Illustrate your skill at providing patient-centered care. Include the following aspects in the discussion:
  • Provide several examples of how you have provided patient-centered care
  • Review the tools and current approaches to improve the delivery of patient-centered care provided in the text
  • Include aspects of what you have learned from Chapter 10: Diversity and Disparities in Health Care
  • Discuss how your new knowledge of these will improve your care as well as outcomes
  • QUESTION 3: You have learned about the potential uses of technology in the future. Consider the health assessment. Be a visionary and share several ideas, and ways in which you would use future innovations in your practice. What do you see as the benefits, risks, and challenges? Discuss with your peers how you would mitigate risks to the nursing profession.
