The Brow Ridge of Australopithecus Afarensis and Brain Capacity Discussion

Question Description

I’m working on a anthropology discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

  1. Go to the Smithsonian website and look at their 3D collection of hominid skulls. It doesn’t require adobe flash player. Click on the pictures of each hominid and then you can click on the pictures and it will turn like a 3D model.

  2. The questions are:
    1. Which parts of skull identification did you find easy (make sure to say which skull with Genus and species and use skull terminology such as brain capacity, brow ridges, mandibles, sagital crest, zygomatics and/or facial prognathism )?
    2. Which parts of identification did you find difficult, for example a feature that doesn’t exist in modern humans (make sure to say which skull with Genus and species and use skull terminology)?
    3. What insights have you gained with regards to the work of paleoanthropologists with minimal hominid fossils to classify new species?
