Theodicy the Witness Discussion

Description

In section 1.5 of “The Witness”, Agamben tells the story of a theodicy that ends up as expected; favoring a conciliatory standpoint, vindicating both God and “the powerless of men, who continue to cry, “May that never happen again!” when it is clear that “that” is, by now, everywhere.” (20)

A number of the examples Agamben attends to could also be taken to speak to the prevalence of the supposedly ‘anomalous unfortunate incident’ as, in actual fact, probably less isolated than we might wish to believe.
