University of Maryland Global Campus W7 Coherence in Your Writing Discussion
Description
This week, we have studied coherence — the flow from one idea to the next — in writing. Let’s practice introducing and recognizing coherence. We looked at four specific ways of improving coherence:
- Transitional words and phrases
Internet users do not always think about how their internet data is being used. Nonetheless, collecting and using data about search habits is big business.
- Repetition of key works and phrases
Companies are able to track the searches made by various demographics and use data about these searches to target advertisements to likely customers. Customers will see advertisements that match their interests, but they have give up some privacy in return.
- Pronoun reference
For some customers, this loss of privacy is acceptable, while others are deeply concerned.
- Parallelism
Customers may worry about their search data getting into the wrong hands or about further intrusion into their private lives.
Initial post:
Select one paragraph of your research paper draft (selected paragraph is below) and examine it for examples of the above four coherence tools. If you do not find at least two of the tools in use, revise your paragraph so that it uses at least two of the tools. Post your paragraph here. Do not identify the coherence tools you used; you will be analyzing each other’s paragraphs in your guided response.
(In addition, the war also affects SCM through brain drain. During the World Wars, people fled war-infested countries to more peaceful locations. In the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, many Ukrainians have fled to countries such as Poland, Azerbaijan, and Kosovo. Others have lost their lives while attempting to protect their motherlands. Losing people significantly impacts countries, especially when these people are lost in the masses. These countries lose important professionals who play a crucial role in the supply chain’s smooth flow of goods and services (Bluszcz & Valente, 2022). In the long run, SCM is affected since experienced and highly skilled individuals lose their jobs. Recovering from such an amount of brain drain is difficult for countries, and they need decades to get back on their feet.)

Trent:
The United States faces potential conflict due to the rapid withdrawal from the War on Terror. President Biden saw the need to end America’s involvement in foreign wars that do not directly affect the United States, and pulled out all American troops from Afghanistan in a little less than a year. This has the Potential to empower terrorist groups such as ISIS or Al Qaeda and increases the possibility for them to try and attack America or its allies again. “The former intelligence officer, who preffered not to use his name, said that the hasy withdrawal and surrender to the Taliban and their terrorist allies offers encouragement to terrorists around the world to begin anew their terrorism campaigns.” (Davis, 2021, p.11). Throughout the past 20 years, the United States has maintained a strong precense in Aghanistan and had been able to keep terrorist groups such as ISIS and Al Qaeda under control. Now that the United States has withdrew and essentially surrendered to Al Qaeda, this could lead to a hostile takeover of thenation by the terrorist groups once again. Overall, this puts countries like israel and other nearby allies at risk of future terrorist attacks. While under the control of the United States, the Taliban had less access to many things like assets and supplies, this in turn weakened their progression. Now with the U.S. gone, they have all the freedom to gain strength and grow out of control.
