Procedural Law Discussion

Description

Discussion 7

The defendant shot and killed a police officer and then escaped on foot. He was thereafter charged with first-degree murder. The defendant wants to claim that his diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia affected his ability to form the intent required for murder. In your state (Arizona), the defendant cannot introduce this argument to negate intent; he can only plead insanity under an abbreviated version of M’Naghten, which requires proof that the defendant did not know his conduct was wrong because of a mental defect or disease. Will you accept or reject the case? Read Clark v. Arizona, 548 U.S. 735 (2006), which is available at this link Link (Links to an external site.)

CMUL John Adams and the Constitution Essay

Description

In contentious times I thought that the following case may be helpful in understanding what it means to be an American. You will see an example that is historic and non-partisan and without the animus that we see currently in our political process.

While you are working on your amendment papers I thought this would give you some insight into how the Bill of Rights had its beginning with John Adams. His defense of British Troops before the Revolutionary War will give you insights to the mindset of this most influential man in drafting our Constitution.

Read the case below. It is also on Amazon Prime if you would also like to watch an excellent video representation of it—John Adams Season 1 Episode 1 which is about 1 ½ hrs. It is excellent; if you have access it is well worth watching.

Also, it is described in detail in the book John Adams.

Write your decision and engage in a vigorous discussion with me and fellow students of how this man and this case is influential in the Amendments. Identify the amendments that in some way are the result of John Adams personal experiences as an attorney in pre-revolutionary War America.

Curry College Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Paper

Description

Using the link above in this week’s module (or type in this URL https://crimesolutions.ojp.gov/topics/victims-victimization?ID=8 (Links to an external site.) )

Identify two different programs for this assignment. One program has to have a success rating (green) and the other program needs to have a success rating of either some success (yellow/orange) or a failure (red). Write a summary paragraph in your own words (hint: read about the program(s) you chose and then walk away. After no less than an hour, sit down with pen and paper, or phone app, or at your computer—and without looking at the program materials again–write a paragraph on each program—you can double-check any details you want and fix anything later–the importance is for you to mind dump it and put it in your own words first). Last, write a paragraph (or more) on the “why” of the ratings–for example, what did the green program do/have that the yellow or red program did not? Pro tip: Try to find programs that fit your research needs for the paper in this class if possible. ***** Look for programs that include Crime Prevention Through Enviromental Design*******
